There is a daily bus service to the coastal towns and the provincial capital. The town nestles on the southern slopes of Sierra de Enmedio which forms part of the Sierra Almijara Mountains, the boundary line between the provinces of Malaga and Granada.The area is irrigated by the river Chillar which flows into the sea near Nerja. The waters are used for vegetable and potatoes plots which are common in the area as well as plantations of subtropical fruits such as avocados and custard apples. Archaeological investigation has revealed that the area has been populated since the dawn of time and there is ample evidence which indicates that Phoenicians and Romans established communities here.The village is divided up into two sections, the old Arab quarter with its winding, cobbled and shady streets and the new quarter. The main street which winds through the old town ends in a square where the parochial church of San Antonio is located. It was built in 1676 and among many details of architectural interest the exterior doors, with their lovely adornments, should not be missed. Modern times have brought all the amenities required by visitors and the local population. There are restaurants, bars and quiet terraces to while away the hours and enjoy the tranquil lifestyle.
